THOSE STATUES

Gene Turgeon wrote the lyrics to the song "Those Statues:  it was performed by the Comedics.

These lyrics certainly describe the conflict that ensued after the statues "Bodies in Motion" were placed on the John Rhodes centre.

Those Statues!

Chorus

Well, it is the biggest mix-up

I’m sure you will agree

Those statues that our city bought

Are quite a sight to see

One day when walkin’ by the Rhodes

I saw them in the air

They say that with a telescope

You might spot pubic hair

They should have seen it comin’

Our council’s not that shrewd

They know that artist Michael Burtch

Likes workin’ with the nudes

Chorus

You better take them down, you see

They might corrupt our young

A pity, for they look to be

Exceedingly well hung

Again we are the butt of jokes

They’re laughing coast to coast

Just goes to show that lots of folks

Still read the National Post

Chorus

But wait, the tide is turning

A real frontal attack

And now we know they’re really art

The people want them back

And if, in time, good folks complain

And rant because they’re bare

Our City Works will take the blame

And paint on underwear

Chorus
